Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody. My teenage sister bought this on an EP with her hard won pocket money. Love it! :)

Medieval carol, Ther is no rose of swych vertu.

This is a lovely version, too.

Happy Christmas to all. Peace & Joy.

Vivaldi's Gloria - something that only became a favourite in recent years. But once heard - who can resist? Here is 'the famous bit' sung by The Sixteen. Ravishing.

This is a favourite of mine after I heard my husband playing it on the piano. It's so beautiful & evocative. The details I give below, but would just add that it is commonly referred to as 'Tolling Bells'.

CHOPIN Prelude 6 op 28 B minor - Michel Mananes CD

This Coranto by William Byrd became a favourite of mine after I heard my husband practising it for his piano lessons. It's lovely.

We had this delicate beauty on a guitar LP when I was a child. Tarrega's Little Musical Box.

Here's one of my favorite pieces of music being played on a Spanish classical guitar.
The movement that occurs at about two minutes is always moving, like underwater currents.
The only way this video could be more meditative for me is if it showed lilies gently floating in a pond.

When I started playing my brothers' acoustic guitar and then bought an electric for myself,
I went to the library to take out classical, symphony and jazz albums, to go with my guitar based rock.
After a while I stopped taking symphonies and operas out, wanting to hear piano, organ and chamber pieces.
I'll admit, chamber pieces were easier to understand, as music and sonic positioning, than symphonies.
If I hadn't been onstage during a rehearsal with the Ottawa Symphony I would never have known.

The two classical pianists that I ended up taking out all the time, ignoring the rest,
were Vladamir Horowitz and Vladamir Ashkenazi. Horowitz was middle-aged and Ashkenazi a junior.
This isn't the thundering, demanding and challenging Vladamir Horotwitz that is my favorite,
and almost as much for seeing him doing a gig at this age, yeah... it's really good to see and hear him.
