World Fusion Music

I love the way that music bears the imprint of whatever part of the world it comes from - of whatever part of a continent it comes from - of whatever part of a smallish landmass (e.g. the UK) it comes from.

And I love the way that different cultures can be fused together to a delicious blend, like a new flavour discovered accidentally in cooking.

This is the thread to post cultural crossover or 'World Fusion Music'.

!965 saw one of the first really popular examples of world fusion music brought out on disc - the Missa Luba, an African setting (from the then 'Belgian Congo') of the Catholic Latin Mass.

Here's the Credo - just lovely!

Of course, it was the Missa Luba Sanctus that was an unexpected 'hit' in the 1960s.
And no wonder - it is sublime.

I was talking with a musician from the Congo on the weekend... yeah...

I used some of my Thai sweet chili sauce for chicken when I was cooking last night.
Yeah! Nothing wrong with a little Scottish-Thai food fusion.
That got me singing Gaelic-Global fusion like I was cooking around a campfire.
I'm not going to add another video because I haven't watched all of these yet.

okay, I'm back with an edit.
It's not about seeing the roadway on the Great Wall of China,
and there is absolutely no insinuation here about the title of this video and anything Ella Beck might be thinking,
but here's one of my favorite world fusion musical artists.
I really like the way she does "The Thrill is Gone", but for here I'm sure this is more upbeat, with some downbeats,
if not deadbeats... seeing meth-heads gathering in front of their storefront down the street this morning.
Money-lending operations, which are illegal in some other provinces.
I'm not a Ray Charles fan. His singers had to have sex with him as part of his show,
and his big promo was being a heroin addict. I gotta be real as much as I have to be myself.
If I was this woman, I'd amplify her instrument and use a wah-wah pedal and a phase shifter, for starters.

AkashA, the all Malaysian band that took the Rainforest World Music Festival 2008 by storm, presents a compilation of diverse music genres, woven together with a magical thread of ethnic acoustic instruments from around the globe.

I'm not sure they haven't tried to do too much here - too many genres, despite their obvious talent.
