My vote goes to Craig Cramer. I have CDs and have attended concerts. He prefers mechanical action instruments. He is very comfortable on straight pedal boards. One CD that I find very interesting is one he played for a demonstration CD on two Canadian organs by Halbert Gober. I have played briefly on Halbert's instrument for Bethany Lutheran in Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA, and despite being in a modern round church, the sound of the instrument is very warm, without in any way being mushy.

I also like any number of other organists, too many to mention.

The ones I can think of right now, in alphabetical order: Yves Castagnet, Sophie-Véronique Choplin, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Ludger Lohmann, Ben van Oosten, Louis Robilliard, Daniel Roth, Stefan Schmidt, Stephen Tharp.

And for improvisation, I'd say Frédéric Blanc, David Briggs, Thierry Escaich, Naji Hakim, Philippe Lefèbvre, Loïc Mallié, Pierre Pincemaille, Louis Robilliard, Daniel Roth, Stefan Schmidt, Wolfgang Seifen, Ansgar Wallenhorst.

Sure does ... even though they are no longer living, they can still, for the purposes of this discussion, be a favorite.

Certain greats who have passed on into eternal life will never be again, although many of the upcoming artists, like Cameron Carpenter and Felix Hell, are going to be talked about for a very long time.

Where is that organ? The case almost looks like a take-off on St. Bavo in Holland, but that's a three manual and probably much older. This one appears to be electrical action.

Its a mechanical action Marcussen in Rotterdam - and has the most amount of pipes in all of the Netherlands.

Dorothy Papadakos is absolutely one of my favs. If she were to stop at St. John the Divine to give a recital, some time after the organ has been re-installed, you might see me camped out in front of the cathedral, waiting.:grin:

Oh boy, there's a lot of them....

I was at recital at St. John's Ev. Luthern Church in Allentown (PA). Cameron was playing. He played his rendition of a short piece by Percy Whitlock. This piece is only 3 minutes long and Cameron made like 75 changes in registration! You didn't have to tighten your seatbelt for this, you needed to mummify yourself to the seat!

C. Carpenter would be a favorite, hands down, when I'm in the mood for something wild.

Oh yeah, I knew that. Dorothy left not long after the fire. In fact, the last I heard, Tim Brumfield was leaving his post, there, as Music Director. But Dorothy can still come up and visit, and play for us.
