Video test

I was at a folk festival at the weekend and took a load of photos, but also a few videos. This is to test if I can link to my Picasaweb in the same way that we link to Youtube. If it does I might post a few to the dance forum.

The quality is not as good as my original as I had to convert it from MP4 to WMV format to reduce file size (from 455Mb to under 100Mb), slow start but soon hots up. The dancers are from a Slovak team called Morena, based in North London.

The venue background was not particularly inspiring, nowt I could do about that!

I was able to view the video from the link above. Did you try the "Insert Video" tool on the reply bar. It should take any web address, not just those for Youtube.

It only shows the exact same thing that Mike shows in the initial posting. Pshawww. Was hoping it would appear like YT's do.

I'm not really satisfied with the picture quality, but with original files at up to 700Mb or more the time taken to upload and the amount of online storage required tends to be off putting!

Lars, if you use the URL of the actual video, not the album URL then it will play, but quality is just the same. I think I need to try out a few more video format convertors to see if image quality can be improved.

Quite a bit sharper to my eye, however is the video good enough, do the movement and music compensate sufficiently for the loss in image quality?

I thought the sound quality was sufficient, especially taking into consideration that it was an outdoor event and most likely void of any semi-professional recording equipment.

When I went full screen with the video it took on a grainy appearance and the images were not as sharp as the still image above.

It must have been difficult for the performers working on that slight slant though, but maybe they are used to adapting to different situations.

Trying the original which took 38 minutes to upload and a further 20 minutes processing, also using embedded feature.

Doesn't look much different - if at all. Definitely not as good as the original, obviously Picasa doesn't process it that well! Selecting full screen is even worse.

I consider the test a failure. I've yet to try Youtube.

seems a bit better result, got 14 videos of another team uploading, takes forever.

Big improvement on video quality ... much sharper images now. Music comes across as good, also.

How big are the files you are uploading?

File sizes are approximately 150Mb per minute, largest of those uploaded so far is 702Mb; they eat storage space! I've now uploaded 21 files to that Onedrive which started as 15Gb free, it's already down to 6.95Gb left. I'm going to do a bit of experimenting to try and cut down size without degrading quality too much. I have the option to record at 1280x720, so far I've been using 1920 x 1080, I suspect the latter will be necessary for anyone displaying it on a large screen TV, I'm using a 23" monitor and selecting full screen display looks about the limit, although a TV would usually be viewed from a greater distance.

I was browsing camcorders yesterday and came across this one which might interest some of our MIMF members, is it worth posting separately?
