One of the most prestigious music competions in the world opened on 30th of September with a concert performed by Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire duet.

The competion takes place in Warsaw, Poland every 5 years. It was initiated in 1927 by a Polish pianist - Jerzy Żurawlew.

Today was the first day of the final auditions where competitors have to play one of Chopin's concerti. The auditions will end on 20th October and the winner will be announced around 11.00 PM CET.

Though if you're waiting to hear the f minor concerto you might be dissapointed. I'm pretty sure I heard someone say at some point that only one competitor chose this concert (the one from Poland, the one who played yesterday).

I didn't see The Pianist, by Polanski, I'll have to keep an eye out for it. And thanks for the internet information.
