It is one of the best musical films that I ever saw. I love the songs and the movie itself. What can you say about this movie and the soundtracks?

I really agree! It´s a fantastic musical and I think I can all the songs and lines in my heard. I just think it´s a shame that the movie doesn´t follow the book about the "Familie Von Trapp". But really - that movie makes me cry over and over again.... "Theeeee HIIIIIIILLLLLLS areee aaaaaaaLIIIIIIVE, with theeeee SOOUND oooooff MUUUUUUUUUUSIC":D

I haven’t read the book so I can’t compare the movie with it. But I can say that I find the film totally amazing! It is one of the old movies that I will never get tired of watching.

I agree. I thought the music was wonderful. I dont think today's generation gives it enough of a chance. It seems to be lost now a days for some reason. I thought it was great. Delightful, meaningful, 2 thumbs up, fine family fun.

I love the musical both the story and the score, however it took until I was 30 to watch the film all the way through. I heard all the jibes prior to watching the movie and was put off by the reviews I heard. Thankfully one christmas my kids asked to watch it and we enjoyed the whole movie together.

Some movies like "Sound of Music" are so universal. Almost everybody has seen it. The music is great and equally universal. It touches the heart. I did not know it was based on a book. That is news to me. I would certainly go through the book too, if I get my hands on it.

I too am surprised to hear about the book. This thread caught my eye because I was speaking to someone about Sound of Music earlier (more specifically the reality TV show where they found a leading lady for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical) it also made me think about the number of times I'll hear someone start humming a piece from the movie. It truly is universal.

As a kid I remember liking it for the songs - then disliking it because I turned into a teenage boy and we don't like ANYTHING - I watched it again recently and was surprised with the depth of the story. In short....classic!

I didn't know about the book either and am curious to know too. Nevertheless the music is good and it is a good musical, a classic as someone has already termed it. I have watched it about 5 times after getting it copied from my friend and wouldn't mind seeing it once more.

I think the music is amazing considering how long it has been around. It must be one of only a few movie soundtracks where if you asked anyone around the world to sing or hum a tune from it the majority of folk would be able to do it. Which tune they would choose well I think they are all popular but perhaps 'Doe a deer' is such a catchy one.

Playing Pizza Organ entails lots of Broadway medleys, and "Sound Of Music" has always been one of the most recognized & requested, even to today, in the few places that offer such entertainment.

I just love that score, in fact, I love just about anything Richard Rogers ever composed.

I just saw that yesterday

It was Spectacular with a capital "S"!! There isn't one dull song in it. They're all perfectly written. And Julie Andrews was just the Singer for the part of Maria. They had a perfect casting crew and a perfect composer.

I love the music – a film to watch, glass of wine in hand, when the other half is out and I can sing along – but it does rather whitewash the Austrians and make it appear that barely any of them beyond a few naive youths were Nazis. It is also a bit sugary at times.

As a whole, I think that South Pacific is a better, all-round Rogers & Hammerstein show – good themes (racism and ageism to name but two), super music and, in terms of the film, Rossano Brazzi...

For wtwt5237, I'd suggest that Cabaret is an absolute must-see.

Chicago isn't bad – just can't live up to the stage show, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, there's not really been any decent attempts to film any Stephen Sondheim shows – I'm eagerly awaiting Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd.

Otherwise, I'd always recommend The Music Man for the pure joy of Robert Preston's ebulliant performance. Indeed, a personal favourite is Victor/Victoria, also with a superb performance from Preston.

And for something completely different, so to speak, there's always The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The Producers.

You're not easily offended are you? Really unexpectedly good music, and of course Nathan Lane is brilliant as ever. Very witty, very intelligent humor, we can forgive Mel Brooks the occasional cheap gags and puns. The choreography in the movie is the most beautiful I've seen.

Hi all
This is an unforgettable, universal movie. The music of this movie is great, cool and universal. This is family film. It touches the hearts. If the movie follows the book then it may be cooler movie.
