SHADOWLIGHT is (at the moment) a duo of James Hodkinson (lead guitar, vocals, synthesizers) and Mark Wilson (piano, organ, keyboards). They have sublimated a wide range of emotions and feelings into their music – it has a rich and fat sound, surrounded by lush amounts of reverberation to provide the overall atmosphere. There is definitely somewhat of a similarity to Porcupine Tree (a comparison amplified by Steven Wilson-style of singing and harder-edged guitar work). Some of the instrumental passages really do feel like they’d have fit on ‘Lightbulb Sun’ album...The next British group as DeeExpus comes to my mind in very pleasant, mellow parts. Shadowlight succeeds to keep attention to surprise by sudden changing climates from heavy parts to fragile piano and dreamy mood. :cool: I think that mighty Pink Floyd is the source of inspiration too. Harmony vocals add an extra, a bit psychedelic and hypnotizing dimension. That’s an emotional experience, captivating and compelling. Whatever influences, Shadowlight’s CD ‘Winter’ is a very strong release which certainly shows a great deal of promise. ;)

The different parts in every song on 'Winter' are parts of the same big picture, which is a good thing. Listen to believe! :)

James Hodkinson and Mark Wilson are joined by Paul Collins (drums, percussion). Their full-length album 'The Twilight Canvas' is close to completion. The actual release is planned for the beginning of 2012. A number of tracks have been re-mixed and re-recorded for this CD. The fully new songs are to be: Different Light, The Cutting Room, Black Swansong, Evenfall…
And maybe some more. :)

Ed Williamson Brown recently joined the band as new bass guitarist. The line up is now complete. Shadowlight has grown in their music and sound (to compare with the debut EP). The upcoming album is scheduled for Summer.

More detailes should be confirmed as they become available.

Shadowlight are now proud to announce that orders will open for the 'Twilight Canvas' album later this week at the band's official site. The artwork and music are looking and sounding pretty special - a hugh leap forward from the debut EP 'Winter.' Shadowlight expect to be able to ship CD's out in the week end of October/ start of November. More details to follow in a few days.:cool:

‘Twilight Canvas’ is packed with catchy melodies shuffling along at a sedate pace. That takes onto a breath-taking trip through the universe created by Shadowlight…
As this cleverly-constructed album evolves, you will be impressed by the stuff that guys are able to bring to the table. The guitar player James Hodkinson proves to be a burner of true talent. And when he’s backed by the tasteful keyboards of Mark Wilson then the results are 10 songs of high calibre. Add to that some impactful bass work from Ed Williamson-Brown, the colourful drumming of Paul Collins and you have a line-up of musicians that sheer class on display and sophistication. The vocal performance is strong and lyrical aspect is articulate. Each track has its merit to flow through changes that keep everything organic. For me personally, standouts include: ever changing ‘Beauty Dies’, melancholic ‘Monochrome Dream’ and eloquent ‘The Cutting Room’ along with beautiful ‘Black Swan Song’. Though Porcupine Tree is cited for spiritualism, that does not stop this new release being worthy of attention. Atmospheric or post-rock or progressive - whatever you want to call it, Shadowlight meshes expertise stuff. There’s so much to celebrate here. All in all, I think the British band has lived up to the promise to deliver an excellent full-length album. Do yourself a favour and check out ‘Twilight Canvas’. .

So Shadowlight is offering a "spectral glimpse" into their new recording?
Is that why the graphics are so detailed and soft-focus,
and the guitarist is listing his guitars and equipment?
It's interesting that Prog Head thinks being cited for spiritualism detracts from being worthy of attention.
I looked at the band domain and only heard a sample, an instrumental,
so I can't comment on a song or the singer.
However, Shadowlight has shown me that man-made shadows are darker.

'Stars Above The City' will be available as hi-res download from April 7th, 2018. That is, until the band get a sense of there being enough demand for a physical product.
