This morning I learned something about myself, when I heard that Rita MacNeil passed away.
When I played in bands out east, getting into it everywhere, people talked about her and sang her songs.
When I lived in Toronto three times, gigging in Ottawa and visiting an Ottawa symphony girlfriend,
I heard about her from other musicians and friends but was never in the same room.
I watched her weekly hour-long TV show and many TV specials with my parents.
In my life, I thought I just knew her.
But when tears came to my eyes and I couldn't talk, I knew I loved her.
This link is to Canada's largest daily newspaper, a nice article.
Not just "The Men of the Deeps" are missing you right now, Rita.
