I love this Ella, what a gorgeous version.
I heard this sung at Canterbury Cathedral, it was so ethereal & heavenly.

I love Victoria's music too - though I haven't heard enough of it. Here's a beautiful piece that I found today, O lux et decus Hispaniae, a song in honour of St James, (' O light and grace of Spain, most holy James, you who were the first among the apostles, were the first of them to wear a martyr's crown. Alleluia'.

When you see "Mother Earth", you see a less demonstrative English translation of what Haida see as our living entity.
It is unwise to use the word god here, because Haida have seen the many gods and goddesses of their transgressors.
Also, when you see any Haida perform in public, they are not authentic Haida who have resisted foreign intrusion.
Authentic Haida have the highest (notes) and widest (tonal) octave ranges in all of human history, as some say,
that defy explanation. I prefer to think their songs also reflect the marine mammals and creatures of their shores.
Captain James Cook, when he first encountered the oceanic Haida of Northern British Columbia,
wrote that he could not understand how a people could sing with such range and expression,
far greater than any European choir or opera.
Here, you see a woman singing a traditional song, wearing clothing and using an instrument that are self-made.
This slow, heart-beat drum-beat, calls for traditional dancers who aren't there, as Haida music is song and dance,
with actors in costumes portraying the musical narration.
After Captain Cook was invited, he was taken to a shore-side summer lodge that had room for over 600 people.
Ceiling and wall boards were moved to allow proper ventilation, and as Captain Cook wrote,
everyone started singing and dancing, and to his amazement, actors in costumes relived his first encounter.
That must have been truly amazing, because the British left the northern shores of British Columbia alone.
This half of the world was unknown to the writers of the Holy Bible, even if Haida follow the black bird of Noah.
