Today the light will shine on Rap Artist H2O
Jackson: Whats going on man?
H2O: Its all good Jackson. Im doing what I do best!
Jackson: Thats good to know! Lets get started!
H2O: Ok!
Jackson: Where are you from H2?
H2O: I was born and raised in San Francisco, California.
Jackson: Who influenced you into music?
H2O: Ive been influenced by the streets of San Francisco. This might sound corny but mainly by looking out of my window. I would sit and stare looking at nothing in particular and lyrics would just formulate in my mind.
Jackson: Is that right?
H2O: For real! I guess I can truly say at that moment my lyrics are a form of escape from reality.
Jackson: A lot of people dont know that you were part of a rap group in the early 90's. What was the name of your group and how long did you perform with them?
H2O: I was in a group called F.M.2.O. which stands for Furious Minds To Observe. The other members were DJ Q Bert, Mix Master Mike, DJ Apollo and MC FMD. We were ahead of our time by experimenting with rock and rap way before Public Enemy did it! And we performed three years together as a group.
Jackson: How did you get the name H2O and what does it mean?
H2O: I got the name by a friend back in the early 90s. He said I had an original flow so I soon after branded myself with the name H2O.
Jackson: Do you have family members in the film or music business?
H2O: No! Im really the only one who perform on a professional level. I have cousins who rap but not professionally.
Jackson: When you reached the age to decide on a career for yourself was music your first choice?
H2O: Ofcourse it was. Man when I was coming up I was a huge fan of KRS-1, LL Cool J, Pharoh Monch, Run DMC, Melly Mel, Furious five and Too Short. I mean love Hip-Hop! There is no question that this is my calling.
Jackson: Let me ask you this H2 do you remember your first paying professional gig?
H2O: Yeah! Ofcourse! It was in New York! I had opened up a show for Tribe Called Quest and Gang Star! Now that was a hot show!
Jackson: What is a typical day in the studio for you?
H2O: Well when I walk in I would set up then get on the mic for thirteen hours then lay on the cot for two hours go at it again for another thirteen hours.
Jackson: Do you create your own beats or do you have producers who does that for you?
H2O: Well right now I am working with Lazy Boy Production. My dude Sal is a Monster on the beats. Also Im working with Keith Harris of The Black Eyed Peas. He is the drummer for the group. Hes a Monster on the other tracks as well! There are other producers as well. I am very critical as to who I choose to work on my songs.
Jackson: Ive spoken to your manager prior to us doing this interview. How were you able to get DJ Finesse as your manager?
H2O: WOW! This is a long story but Ill make it brief. Let me first say just in case people dont know who is DJ Finesse. He is P Diddys Dee-Jay. I met Finesse at a Clothing and Music Convention in Los Vegas. That particular night I was out randomly passing out my music to people at the Convention. When it was all over I jumped into a taxis to leave. The driver was a young cat so I gave him a tape to play so he can listen to my music while he drove me to my next location.
Jackson: Did the cab driver like what he heard?
H2O: Hell yeah! Dude said he knew DJ Finesse and called him right then and there! The rest is history! Thats why you have to stay on your grind because you never know who knows who and who can help you get to where you have to go!
Jackson: Thats true! Why is it necessary for you to have a manager?
H2O: It is so vital in a artists career to have a manager because for me I cant do everything by myself. My manager goes to all of the meetings and he looks over all my contracts that come my way. And he does all the communication with the labels and agents that reach out to us. Its the right way to handle business and its professional.
Jackson: I agree! I understand youre working on a CD. Who is working with you on it?
H2O: WOW! This is really big! The Black Eyed Peas, Lazy Boy Production, Raw Smoov, Richness and as far as the artists are concern I cant reveal their names right now but trust me its star studded. Youll see!
Jackson: What message do you what people to get from this CD?
H2O: First of all many people have the assumption that West Coast Cats cant Emcee. I will be putting out a mixtape before my CD is released just to give people a sample of what the album will be like. Its Hot! Real Hot!
Jackson: You have a record label called P.O.W. Music. What does P.O.W. mean?
H2O: It means Prisons Of Words. We are all prisons of words in some form or fashion.
Jackson: What other projects are you currently working on?
H2O: I just finished working on a project with Black Eyed Peas. Its Their Band, The Bucky Johnson Album. Im on a song called "Oh No" and man I killed the verse. Its Hot! I cant wait until that drop as well! Im excited!
Jackson: What do you like most about the music game?
H2O: I love the change in music. I think a lot of true talent will soon come to surface and those one-hit-wonders will wonder what happened.
Jackson: I know you lay it down all day everyday but what really motivates you to succeed?
H2O: My family. My love for Hip-Hop and the words, "I cant do it" because I will not let anything stop me. For me success is first spoken into existence and then it becomes my reality.
Jackson: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
H2O: I see myself speaking in front of millions of people on television and at the Kodak Theater as I receive my Grammy. Thats No Joke!
Jackson: What advise can you offer to an artist breaking into the music business?
H2O: If you are not ready to sacrifice everything you have to follow your dream then dont do this music. Dont even think about! This is one of the hardest things you will do in your life. So never give up and put God first!
Jackson: How can people find out more about you and your record label?
H2O: All they have to do is check me out at: www.powmusic.net And show me some love. I know were running out of time so the last thing I want to say to you is thank you for everything and that Every One and Their Mama Raps But Not Every One Emcees! I appreciate you Jackson.
Jackson: I appreciate you too and I look forward to seeing more of you in the future! You gotta come back!
