The Lover's movement from Rachmaninoff's magnificent Symphony No.2 transcribed for organ - don't knock it till you hear it - I admit that even I was skeptical that it could be pulled off - here's the last half of that irresistable 3rd movement:

Hello my dear sweet Ms. RoJo - It is so good to see you back and posting. Probably my only quibble with the Rachmaninoff-on-organ recording is that there is not enough of a warm glow from a string ensemble. Otherwise, it gets my vote for an excellent keyboard interpretation.

I also like the Orchestral version very much. I am taken by the interpretive prowess of Jeffrey Smith however - he certainly knows how to bring out the individual melodies using the different timbres of the organ.

Beautiful transcription of this piece ... wonderful registration technique, too - beautifully played. Makes me wonder if this has ever been performed on the Wanamaker organ.

Hi Krummhorn,

AFAIK, Peter Richard Conte has not played that piece on the Wanamaker, but I could be mistaken since he plays mid-day recitals on the Wanamaker Beauty. Imagine if he were to record the whole symphony? Conte plus Cameron Carpenter could do the whole symphony enormous justice. Imagine the resources of the Wanamaker "singing" Rach's 2nd Symphony...It just boggles the mind.

Hi Ms. RoJo,

You're hit the nail on the head!!!!!!! Before most American cities had a Symphony Orchestra, a big pipe organ was pressed into service to render orchestral transcriptions. The really famous 'Civic' organists like W.T. Best, Edwin Lemare and Lynwood Farnam really knew how to play "orchestrally" with an organ - a world of difference from regular organ repertoire playing.

Never Gonna fall in love again by Eric Carmen? That is why I recognized
this piece. He also did All By Myself. But this is beautiful
on the organ.
