Lidl this afternoon was dangerous, they've started getting some of their chrimbo goodies, I'm sampling some now

Thorntons original toffee - in lumps cracked off the bar, Whole strawberries covered in white chocolate, Raspberries in milk chocolate, Turkish delight - covered in chocolate.

Drool, slurp, dribble MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am holding at 13 st 12 lb at the moment. My aim is 13 st 7 lb (189 pounds) or under by Christmas, which I hope to better. That way I can pig out on Christmas dinner, which I love, Knowing I can lose a couple of pounds if I have to afterwards. I do envy you Mike, but with the diabetes etc I have to lose even more weight. My eventual aim is 12 st 7 lb, which is realistic for my age and height. I have lost over 63 lb in total and am now wearing a 36 inch waist trouser, down from 44 inches. It has taken a long time but has been worth while. I can not go back now and with the regime I follow is not going to happen. Have some for me Mike.

About 5 years ago they told me I was diabetic (type 2) so I reduced my sugar intake, 3 spoons of sugar in tea & coffee became 1 spoon and 2 sweetener tabs, slight reduction in sweets and cakes. Last year my blood tests dropped below the diabetic threshold, same again this year, tea and coffee still get 1 spoon & 2 sweetener tabs, but sweets and cakes are back to normal, BMI is around 24 so weight is OK (6' under 13stone say 180lb) I don't exercise - why make the moving bits wear out faster?

Alcohol intake is also low, an occasional glass of mead or Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer.

Unfortunately diabetes runs in the family so I may be stuck with it, despite generally being careful. I can get away with some dark chocolate and occasionally some cake but pastry raises my blood sugar and so does rice and pasta which I enjoy. Good fish and chips are an occasional treat for me and much appreciated when I have them.

Awww man!!! Mike sure does know how to make another poor sod (like me) suffer and be miserable when he goes lyrical about his calorific intake - Gee whiz, have mercy...

And from now on when anyone asks me about how I am feeling I'll tell them:

"I'm feeling spectacular, but am getting better all the time............."

Speaking of Lild treats:

One of the best reasonably priced chocolates I've ever had. The one in the middle, that is - white with hazelnut crisps.

Sadly, when shopping in Lidl yesterday, I didn't see any of the specialties mentioned in the OP. And I was really looking forward to buying those chocolate covered strawberries.

I like the one at the back of your pic, the white choc and strawbery crisp, the choc covered raisins don't last long here either.

They've just started doing in store baked bread, quite a variety, I find the Panini just right for my midday snack with sliced ham, chicken, turkey or corned beef, with pickle or mustard; the "sandwich pickles" with smaller diced ingredients, [fusspot]I find a whole onion or large chunk of gherkin makes an untidy lumpy sandwich [/fusspot]

Just out of curiosity, how much do they charge for a bar of that chocolate?

One of my favourites is a baguette sliced length ways and slices of tomato laid on it. Cover with a thin layer of Camembert and slip under the grill. The cheese melts through the tomato slices. Wonderful.

Some people prefer Brie because it is milder. Has anyone tried Stinking Bishop cheese?

Stinking Bishop smells absolutely awful. But it has a wonderful taste. If you can get past the smell you are in for a treat.

I feel a diabetic coma coming on ... not for you Mike, but for me ...

We have a gluten free pasta here ... much lower in carbs, and still has excellent taste and appearance. Some of this good for diabetics junk tastes one step above broiled nylon beads. I make our own spaghetti sauce and coupled with the special pasta my blood sugar numbers stay within the guidelines.

Dark chocolate is also okay ... so are the sugar free cookies, but eating too much of those gives me gastric problems.

Sounds delightful .. I'll have to try that.

A Master Phrase-smith at work here in the above quote...

Now, I recently got a "BioChem" profile assessment..."All critical points in the middle of nominal range" as reported by the physician. We all do change and we all should expect "BioChem" profiles to change as we mature...

Glad to hear you are health CD. Helps make up for the rest of us.
Lars, I have tried these sort of products along with brown rice and wheat free pasta, but they do not hit the spot. There is a Japanese plant extract which is high in fibre and has only one caporie per serving, but it also has a rubbery texture. Diabetic biscuits have their own problems as you say. If I eat jam or marmalade I use the no extra sugar varieties, or home made. Even eating an excess of protein such as chicken or eggs can raise my blood sugar. Dark chocolate in moderation is OK.

Now down to 13'9 ( 191 pounds) a new record since my heart surgery. I can now wear the blazer I bought for my daughters christening 25 years ago. Only very slightly snug if I button it up. The blazer has worn better than me, partly because I have not used it for the last ten years. And it will save me buying a new jacket.
I am working up the courage to try on my dark suit. Two years since it was worn, and approximately 35 pounds lighter. Will the trousers fall off?????
