No Longer Wrong

I'm in my favorite place here on Magle, able to hear the band, see the video or graphics,
and start typing about it. Nico Xydis, I hope you don't mind.
Last listens: The first three tracks of Caravanserai by Santana, Sade before that.

This sounds like a nice groove to warm up your first set on a quiet night, what could get jammy right away,
a couple of basic chords moving back and forth with some chord build, and the sax is jazzy jammy.
The vocals are there are far as the singing and quality, but the recording is dry or flat, needing softening effects,
and I'm so used to vocals being doubled or tripled or paralleled, through media, not having that sounds amateurish.

What came across the most there, for me, was after a dramatic build-up around 2:30, having it break down to bass and drums.
Now, I'm not trying to explain with science, even if I'm only hearing you through Altec Lansing computer speakers.
Hearing the guitar bash on with heavy distortion, and then using distortion with a wah-wah, is ordinary,
but it makes the quietly clean with no effects at all guitar at the start of the song seem weak, three listenings now.

I didn't realize the grass was greener until my fourth listening, and I am coming at you from the other side, of the ocean.
The other side of your cheek gets some vocal overdubs, and at 1:30 I wish the sax was phased like the opening of Caravanserai.
The words are right about being alone with science, describing my output right now.
The heavy guitar coming in, just hitting muted strings around 2:40 does recall a similar part in Sade's, uh, "It's not an ordinary love, ordinary love".

I have to comment on this heavy guitar, what is an electric guitar with fuzz or distortion, usually deeper echo,
the introduction of this volume and tone, just hitting muted strings, in key or not, a chord or not, a note or not,
the original rock basis being an acid-washed, out in the cosmos universal sound, before any attempt at playing notes or ringing out a chord.
When I began playing in bar bands in Ontario in 1972, uh, before Marshall came out in 1977 with a pre-amp and master volume,
that was what it was like just turning on, and doing that could be a show for a guitarist or roadie, kind of a sound check,
but mostly to be seen onstage, proof that you're in the band or can get you in to see them.
I never did that. I saved it for effect during a set.
Getting down on my haunches to turn floor effects on or bring up performance volume settings,
having my back to the audience, often gave me a feel for how much people were watching me,
a better indicator of what I could get away with than seeing how much I got felt up making it to the stage.

I'm on my sixth listening now, and explaining it with science, going to the last words, I still can't make out.
Appliance? The second line beginning explaining it with science also is unintelligable, rhyming with appliance.
I'd have recommended a quieter, more thoughtful expression with the lines about leaving it all behind to roam.
This girl sounds sassy all the way through, even if it sounds like she's trying to sing through the dynamics,
not having them wrap themselves around her.

I'm thinking this group of musicians and the singer would be better seen live.
Now starting over again, number seven, now so familiar I'm hearing it to see what it is, overall.
Yes, wanting to understand all the words is my biggest intent, and the clean guitar coming back in should be upgraded,
moving it around, adding to what was used previously.

I might have made a professional income as a sign-painter, but visuals are visuals,
and professional graphic arts should have the same aim, people being able to see and read easily.
I like this graphic, the texture of the background, animated even, not hot on that, too much bandwidth,
and using a French horn suggests the symphonic to rock bands with cellos, but the simple got lost.
The word Moka is the hardest thing to see, and the last thing I got into, looking for a while.
Most people might think coffee, but when I was playing for two seasons with Drastik Measures, from Dominique,
they described themselves as being mocha, caramel or brown coloured, just what they said.
So I'm listening, thinking a former folk singer turned rock singer, getting into loose, soft blues as a production here.

I feel sorry for digital musicians.
Full time, six nights a week gigs used to be about the band being there with a black and white, eight by ten photograph,
that your agent passed around. Cassette recordings through the soundboard could be sold as product that night.
Now you've got to be recorded with a video just to be somebody, bad enough,
but modern attention spans are instantly demanding with channel changes dictated by technology as much as enjoyment.

I listened eight times, the biggest compliment you can get from me.
Oh yeah! Wherever I am, if no-one else can figure out all the words in a song, they ask me, or use mine.
And if I was an online mentalist I'd tell the drummer it's time he forgave his mother.

Hi John,

first of all i'm not the one you mentioned(he is the Studio/recs producer), but im a close friend of one of the band members and i passed your opinion to them.

so on behalf of them, they thank you very much for your time ,listening and writing down these things,
they are noted and will try to fix some things..
as for the lyrics , they say "you keep on explaining with signs" , i don't know why you got so confused

you were much of a help,so again, thanks a lot.

Nouley! Yes, I purposefully addressed my commentary to Nico Xydis because he is the producer.
I just logged in tonight to see if you gave me a reply.
It's flattering to see that my commentary has been influential, even a little bit.
Thank you and your friends for being so honest and open-minded.
I used to write a music column and news features about music, and I miss that.

I'm using new Altec Lansing powered speakers, as good as I can get,
and it still sounds like "appliance", not explaining with signs.
Maybe explaining with signs is such an unexpected and unheard of series of words,
I just can't hear it. Maybe I'm being too rational to be nice to you.

Book publishers say the average person can only read 75% new content,
or a book begins to not make sense.
Musicians know what that's like when a band tries too many new songs,
losing audience interest, even if I can't imagine a percentage.

Please, let's pump up this thread and put up another song, especially any new version of this one.
Where are you coming from?
Is English your first language?
Nico Xydis sounds Greek to me.
Just asking.

Thank you too, the content provider.
I just bought a thick book about ancient Greece, a very nice book.
What turned me on was a section where there was a photo of the original find,
how it was later rebuilt or what it looked like all unburied,
with an artist's rendering of what it looked like when it was original and painted all over.
Fabulous looking buildings like I've never seen before. Beautiful, beautiful.

That's not why I was guessing you're from Greece.
When I was travelling in bands north of Toronto, northern Ontario,
it was understood that half the gas stations and restaurants were owned by Greek immigrants.
I saw them as liking to own their own little domain, forests, rivers and lakes, with a roadside business.
The plate was always a nice blend of healthy foods.
I also make signs and got to be friends with owners of the Olympia Restaurant,
someone who is always travelling back and forth, showing me things,
going there to give myself a nice meal treat.
That got me an invitation to Saturday mornings at Kouros Gas Station,
seen as the local Greek businessman's meeting,
sitting around eating fruits and vegetables from their properties.

But to be totally open and honest with you, as I have been about your music, with you being receptive,
there is a Scottish opinion about Greeks that is Biblical as well as historical and applicable today.
When the first disciples of Jesus of Nazareth first went to a major Greek city,
they looked at the display of all the gods that were Greek,
and the ones strangers brought in to set up, from all around the Mediterranean.
But there was one pedestal without a statue, saying it's the unknown god.
The disciples talked to locals and understood this to be the one and only living god,
that Greeks saw as never having visited them, or the Mediterranean, in person.
They were excited to see miraculous events and believe in the person of Jesus of Nazareth.
That's not only a very literal example of a very intelligent perception of spirituality,
especially having that much in and out of city diplomacy, what could turn to the militaristic easily,
but having an opening waiting to be filled, or even planning using failure as strategy,
only gets to be a better idea the more the world is running down.

A suggestion: The economic global downturn initiated by the disUnited States hit Greece early and hard.
To invigorate Greek people and to return some global economy to your country,
I would recreate the Olympics, even if it's just a summer Olympiad, as part of your authentic history.
The Olympic business gets a lot of criticism here, not just for the greed, drugs and heavy money,
but also the body worship of that travelling sex show.
The fact Olympic employees caused the death of a luge athelete by pushing the limits of the event,
here in Canada, changed a lot of peoples minds.
How can you have athletic integrity with measurements and timings,
when races can be held in mountainous cities and down at sea level.
Having annual Olympics in Greece would stabilize that, and attract the best atheletes.
Again, I say that is your authentic history, your language, no patent on that.
If I ever bumped into a diplomat from Greece, I'd be telling him that.
I'd also, being the good Scotsman I am, with a north of Hadrian's wall metabolism,
be taking off my shirt and pants just for show,
so everyone can see what race was used to sculpt a statue of Poseidon,
maybe Mars and Mercury too.
May All Peace Be Upon You.

Nouley! I'm thinking of your comment about my hearing "explaining with signs",
not knowing why I got so confused. Not being sleepy yet, I thought I'd do more for you,
that's you, as a Greek and friend to the band, from these North American ears of global construct.
When I figure out the words to a song, I don't look at anything else, starting with a blank piece of paper,
beginning to write the first words I hear, leaving spaces, starting or ending lines, filling it in with repeated listenings.
I just did that here, listening ten times in a row, and there's not a lot of words or variations.

When you see an X, that's a sound I can't figure out, not a word, a sound, maybe part of a word.
Let's say science, if I can't figure out the sci I'll type X ence.
I'll also add comments about pronunciation at the end, rounding out my explanation.
This is also good for me, and your comments will amplify my understanding of your language.
It was easy to comment, thinking producer, but getting into the songwriting is more invasive.
It's up to you how far you want to go with this, and I'm even thinking of my own adaptation.
The vocalist has a breathy rasp coming up from the back of her throat,
what might be a Greek exclamation, like how Scottish people have that burr,
and that's a major factor for me, not catching some words at all.
That's why I was thinking she wasn't singing in her native tongue.

X the grass yeah is greener, and X ence yeah forever,
when none of them set foot on the sky,
and the earth gets X gles, I'm no longer to roam, I'm no longer to roam.

Your mama let you out with no jacket on,
and your bob bob blues are X X X ave,
when you start anew you let a smile upon your cheek,
X you X ert your enemies I X X to roam, I X X X

Oh, yeah yeah yeah, I just assumed you'd find your world,
you're not wrong at all, you're no longer to roam.

Now you're trying to explain it with science,
but everyone else seems to try to push it away with X ence,
you keep on explaining with signs,
in the end you stay alone with X ence, and just X X X X

Oh yeah yeah yeah, I show you X a world you're not wrong at all,
you're no longer to roam.

All north american music sings about your mama and your papa, movies for sure.
What's dominating charts is the hip-hop and country attitudes.
Your singer is singing "maw maw", not mama. You change mama and it's just not effective.
Everyone knows you don't let anyone else mess around with your mama, unless it's your paw paw.
She has to be singing jacket, but it sounds like jagged, as in "Jagged Little Pill", by Alanis Morisette.
One time, singing I'm, it sounds like high-muh.
I've never heard the phrase "You're no longer to roam", a very clumsy use of English.
And roaming is a very common word to use, rhyming with home very easily.
It must be different for you, hearing the sound roam, being so tied to Rome.

Please don't think I'm coming down on you about the English language, like I am and you're not.
When the dark ages had passed, my Scottish ancestors looked down on their fellow islanders below Hadrian's Wall,
seeing them speaking Latin, seeing a melting pot society, people coming there to get into the northern oceans.
Scottish people, as The Return of Sion, James of Scotland, defined the English language,
using it to create the Holy Bible, and later, the Encyclopedia Britannica.
The Encyclopedia was published to educate Europeans about other new countries around the world,
so their military masters could no longer say they are killing them because they are dogs without languages or prayer.
So we both are using English, when I could be Gaelic and you Greek.
Let's see what I can do with your words, even if an easy message escapes me.

Is it the grass, yeah, that's getting greener,
is the other side there, forever,
when none of us has set foot up in the sky,
and this world keeps whirling, you've turned your back on your home,
and now all you can do is roam. And you know all roads lead to roaming.

Your mother knows you left to face all that cold alone,
all she can do is hope your blues don't get the best of you,
getting out at first it's easy to have a smile on your face,
but when others try to make you an enemy,
you have to behave in ways to make a friend of me,
and you're so far from home, can you just pick up and go.

Oh, yeah, it's true, I just assumed you'd find your world,
and figure out what to do, and start to build your own home,
so you won't have to roam.

Now you're trying to break me out of my cell, phone,
when there's no signal for you to find you get down, load,
you just keep on explaining I just have to try it,
in the end we're all just left counting up the hits,
even if we link up, we're still sitting here alone,
we're so far, far away from home.

Oh, oh yes it's true,
you can build a world where you are never wrong,
but that doesn't make it a home,
that doesn't mean you're not alone,
Have you even tried the telephone,
because baby we all want some for our own,
and that grass is starting to look full grown,
this girl is starting to act full grown,
when this boy is acting out on his own,
and the love we share makes it our home,
when we no longer have to look to Rome,
when all roads lead to our home.
when your love brings you back to my door.
and you won't have to roam any more.

Am I suggesting that the singer jam out the words a little bit,
instead of stopping singing and having an instrumental carry on for over a minute,
when most DJ's would fade the song after the vocals, unless it was outstanding and signature music?
And don't forget, I'm hearing Sade production from "it's just an ordinary love, an ordinary love",
the same choked, distorted, wah-wah guitar break that leads into soloing.
This also gives you a chance to say forget it, and ignore my extra words, diplomatic of me,
and also suggestive, giving you workable rhymes you might use to change the song your way.

Uh, should I make a video of me playing guitar and singing it? I feel I know it already.
Thanks again Nouley, for getting into it with me. As you can see, it truly turned me on.
I recently did an artwork on blue paper using blue dots, my fallen blue warrior who looks like me,
using a photo of
"The fallen warrior from the east pediment of the temple of Aphaia, Aigina.
Staatliche Antikensammlungen and Glyptothek, Munich,
Photo: Hartwig Koppermann".
There is an extensive program here for putting up your own artwork or photos.
If you can put up a coloured photo of the reconstruction of the throne room of the megaron at Pylos,
I'll put up a photo of my painting of it, and it will be big.
Big enough to be all our home, so our font won't have to roam.

Nouley! You did something I've never done, even if I've tried.
I just looked at Youtube again, having an account, now with whatever Google is doing,
and can't embed a video as you have.
Could you describe your process? I also want to limit it just for Magle.dk if I can.
I'll be making a video for this domain, playing piano, tonight.
And I'm never in a hurry.

If you'd like to get into a dialogue about what foreign music and movies are,
to North Americans, and what new content would be feasable for sales, in English and authentic language,
you might be surprised at the cultural divide and the excessive to obsessive electronic use.
The Niagara Peninsula was the first area in the world to have commercial electricity.
Municipal garbage separates computers, accessories, musical instruments, etc, for recycling.
"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was very successful, North Americans seeing lots of personality and energy and wit,
but India hit it, "Slumdog Millionaire", the first foreign film to win best picture.
I advise you to be authentic content, instead of trying to sound like what's already out there.
For over two years, arabic music with a hip-hop influence is big around here.
Check out the first digital Hulk movie, an arabic soundtrack, yeah,
and he's out in the desert, picking up American tanks by the turret and tossing them around.
You and me can toss it around.

well the greek economy is a big conversation ,and involves many countries(or leaders and bankers to be accurate), and the Olympics being held in Greece always,is a very good idead that is discussed here too, but as long as the money rules, it can't be allowed..

as for the lyrics ,:

when the grass gets greener
and rich get poorer
when all of them set foot on the sky
and the earth gets angles
i ll no longer be wrong
i ll no longer be wrong

when your mama lets you out with no jacket on
and your papa feels ok for you to be gay
when you start a new life with no smile upon your cheek
and you revere your enemies at least you re not wrong at least you re not wrong
yeah yeah yeah yeah as you are strong to find your world you re not wrong at all
you no longer be wrong

now you re trying to explain with signs
but everyone else thinks you are trying to push away the flies
you keep on explaining with signs
and in the end you stay alone with flies
but you still not be wrong yeah yeah yeah yeah
as you are strong to find your world you re not wrong at all you no longer be wrong

Nouley! I've exceeded even my most fontalicious forum use, exciting to get into it with you.
I'm serious with everything I say.
I'm also old enough to wish you were my pen-pal, being involved with musicians, and being in Greece.
And I'll type it again, there isn't a patent on Greek history and language,
and what happens in Greece should be for Greeks. Resurrect the original and authentic Olympics.
My comments to a source about building a Mayan handball league has met a lot of enthusiasm in the States,
especially since The Rock has already made a movie in South America. 22,000,000 Mexicans in the U.S.A.
The Mayans called it Mexico.
This is the first time I've ever been unable to come up with enough words to call it the song.

Here's a link to me playing a piano, wanting to get something of me up here. That's only fair,
after commenting on you. I only jam in C minor, don't know a song, and have a bad left hand.
If I'm playing piano two-handed too much it interferes with the co-ordination I have playing guitar.
I'm going to try again and I forgot to sing a C above high C and plunge to a C below low C,
something I do to shake people up. No-one expects that from me.
I'm going back to youtube and try what you said. Thank you.

As far as roam and Rome goes, did you think I was taunting you?
I like to think I know the actual history.

Nouley! Thank you very much, but this looks so wrong,
me jamming on a piano with the production of Moka on top.
The more I play piano, the more it wrecks my guitar playing co-ordination.
I see piano as being a right-handed instrument,
and I play guitar with the bass string on the bottom, very left-handed.
Yeah, what a concept, bass on the bottom and highs on top.
Orville Gibson, who invented Gibson Guitars, was a lefty with the bass on the bottom.
He also dressed up like a court jester or joker from a deck of cards. I like a show.

Just to explain my interest in world history, as I talk to you about Greece,
I've got a new friend I visited tonight, someone only Hungarian,
and I didn't know Magyar language descended from Sumer, the Sumarians.

I'd love to be able to play and sing your song for you,
and I'm tempted to do a lyric rewrite, as always.
At least I know my links work.
But, you have to admit, it's your turn now.
I used the link in a couple of other places here,
and I'm a little excited to see what reactions there are.
Thank you for your encouragement.
I hope no plates were destroyed after the listening of this music.

Just for your global information,
I'm eating my favorite chocolate covered coconut bar, in Canada,
that's made in Turkey. "Island Bar", a three piece package that's 50 cents, 66g,
with nutritional information on the wrapping.
An American chocolate bar, made less than fifty miles from here,
maybe 45g, is over $1.50, with no nutritional information.

I did this in response to a posting from a guitarist in Uruguay,
trying to do everything the exact opposite of his video,
down in "Composers and Musicians Connection", Uruguayan Guitarist,
but it is the second video I've made, me playing an inexpensive acoustic,
with my electric guitar strings on it so I don't lose my feel for them.
I am at your gracious mercy.
