I've learned several musical instruments including the dulcimer, double bass, electric bass, a practice chanter and the tin whistle. My thing is, none really fit me. I've learned these fairly well, and on one instrument, the double bass, have managed to play at the symphony level. The reason I've started on several others is this. I'm looking for the one instrument to dedicate myself to. These are the points I'm trying to get from an instrument
~I want something classical and refined
~I also would enjoy if it were able to sound dark and melancholic at the same time as classical.
~I also would prefer it not be a woodwind or brass instrument.
~No percussion(excepting, of course things like pianos)
My original want was the pipe organ, but with the area I'm in, finding a teacher, or an organ for that matter, entails at least a two hour drive, if I could manage a teacher at all. No local churches actually employ the use of a pipe organ. So, I figured I'd use the magic of the internet to try and get the opinions of people more rounded in the subject than myself. I'm open to opinions on instruments, both new and old. Thanks guys
