Thank you, Bill ... and all the best to you and all of our members during this holiday season.

I wish to also publically thank our wonderful MIMF staff for a fine year and all their dedicated work towards making this site what it is today.

And thanks too, to all our loyal members ... without you this site would not exist, either.

I'm afraid I find the way it's been commercialised has destroyed any festive spirit for me, sorry but it's just another day now.

I just switched the stereo from tuner to CD to get away from a continuous stream of carols, I know this is the pantomime season but ... ... ... ... ... ...

It has gotten out of hand ... locally they start putting out Xmas decorations in July. I was in a greeting card store the other day and saw stuff out for St. Patrick's Day already. Oh Good grief, as Charlie Brown would say.

The majority of my "festive spirit" is doing/playing music; the big even each year is the Handel Messiah (Part I) for which I am the solo organ accompanist at a very large Roman Catholic church in a town 75 miles away. They've kept inviting me back since 2008 ... a truly wonderful experience.

So I'm not a "ho ho ho" type person ... but I will put on my red Santa cap for the prelude on Christmas Eve at my church.

My wife and I were given a trip to Maui for 10 days with my daughter and her husband for Christmas. While there we visited my brother's widow and her lovely daughter. We had a very merry Christmas.

Best wishes to all, and a happy New Year to you.

Just another day here, I did manage a lie in until 10.30, no entry phone blasts from newspaper or other delivery, nor House manager checking if all the residents are still alive. The swelling on me right foot has gone down enough to get me slipper on and I can almost walk without a stick. The view out the window is dark, dank and miserable.

Roll on tomorrow when I may be able to put the radio on without endless carols.

Bah Humbug at maximum. At least I have food and warmth and a PC. Who knows, I may even get my annual call from a cousin in Taunton; nothing from 4 kids, dozen grandkids and at least half a dozen great grandkids that I know of.

Mike, I got a text from one of my daughters. Nothing from the third one or any of the grandchildren saying thank you. We are just present machines I fear. Maybe I will stop sending. Maybe.........

I stopped sending many years ago when it became apparent that the traffic was one way, not even acknowledgments coming back.

I feel rueful for you, Mike (and teddy). Such a shame that those who did appreciate you from long ago no longer communicate or send greetings. I'm sure that is not the way you taught them to behave.

We used to send out 50 or so seasonal cards each year - the list has been pruned to about 20 these days.

It seems it has become a commercial holiday and real meaning sliding away. Even younger generations it is all about the gifts and nothing to do with the reason. I guess it is a" New Brave World". Many times makes me glad I am on the last leg of this journey of life the way it seems to be heading. We can only try and make a difference before we leave.

I agree with you, Bill ...

If I didn't have all my musical ties to the church I'm quite convinced that I would be sent off to the Tokyo Giggling Academy.

It also seems that in today's world there is way too much emphasis on electronic gadgetry - read about the man who fell off the cliff in California while he was fiddling with his iPad or something.

All we can do is try our best to enjoy the time we have left, and relish in joy with all the friendships we have made on the way.
