Adam Andrews is an exciting, original, new, solo pianist who is quickly developing a distinctive style -- melodic, forceful and creative. His debut CD, ROAD TO AMBO, has been released. The title tune and some of the other music were inspired by the trials and tribulations endured by this American and his Anglo family in trying to adopt and get a visa for a black African baby from Ando, Ethiopia.
This is a lovely recording that does just what you would hope and expect. It translates personal feelings, passions and resonating emotions into music that then becomes universal in nature and can be enjoyed by everyone. All of the tunes are good, but in some ways the album builds progressively into an even stronger coalition of music with the last six numbers, especially Faces We See, New Normal and Breathe (the closing piece). Andrews proves to be a strong contender in the crowded field of solo piano recordings. It will be interesting to hear what he comes up with next.
