• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

    Many kind regards

Hi aat ! Welcome to the Forums.
If you are asking for information about available downloads of Dupre's music, I'm afraid I can't help.
However, Dupre's music is published by Alphonse Leduc and I'm sure you'll easily locate what you want by contacting a good music supplier. If you are in the U.K. the distributor for all French publishers is U.M.P.
Hope this is of some help.
Best wishes.

Hi aat ...

There is also this source at Sheet Music Plus for Dupre's organ works.

None of Dupre's organ works will be in public domain until January, 2042.

@rovikered: Leduc published some of Dupré's works, but by no means all. Several works are published by Combre, Durand, Gray, and Salabert. In particular, the 79 Chorales aat was asking about were published by Gray.

@Krummhorn: Actually, the situation is even worse in France, where the 70-year-counter is "suspended" during the two World Wars, which means that in that country, Dupré will not fall into the public domain until well into the 2050s. And which also means that Widor and Vierne are still not in the public domain today, although they are in most other countries in the world.

They say that 50,000,000 Frenchmen can't be wrong. But they all speak French. And apparently they even count crooked.

Rather famously, they don't have words for the 10's. To say 83, you have to say 20 x 4 + 3 (vingt cattre trois).

:tiphat: Thanks for that information, acc.
I had not known that about France before ... bummers having to wait about another 10 years for PD's on those two greats.

Thanks for that information, acc. The scores I have of Dupre's works are all published by Leduc, so I didn't know of his other publishers.
Anyone living in the U.K. asking for French music and publishers only has to be told of U.M.P. the U.K. distributors of all the French publishers so for us the individual publisher is of secondary importance.
Best wishes.

Yes, this is indeed surprising, given that it is essentially the French who have invented decimal subdivisions for units of length and weight. (But then, that system has still not been adopted in some other countries that I know of, either.)

(Actually, it's quatre-vingt-trois, in that order. At least, they don't invert tens and units like the Germans.)

Actually, that clause is only present in French copyright law. That explains how Carus and Bärenreiter were able to go for their new editions of Vierne's works — they just don't have the right to sell them to French customers.

From this I gather that the rest of us can get what the French can't.

Yes, the German counting system does seem backwards. 83 in German is drei und achtzig, or 'three and eighty'. But maybe they think we are the ones who are backwards.
