Tatsu! You're getting into it here! Nice contribution! When I saw Weather Report in Buffalo, when "Birdland" was out, Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul were feuding. They would play the intro and walk offstage, and let Jaco Pastorius and the drummers jam for five or ten minutes, then return to end the song. I was a music reporter from Canada, and even the press room and backstage bar and buffet was shut down. Jaco was more than worth it. Wish you were there!

Yeah! Jaco was doing his own little Cirque du Soleil, bending over backwards in slow motion in impossible ways,
waving his bass around, sticking it into the front row, and using effects to sound like a hard rock guitarist,
when he wasn't sounding like a four piece chamber orchestra.

Yeah, wish I was there too. I saw video of Jaco playing with a jazz big band and he was pushing the beat harder than I've ever heard. Everyone was put through their paces. It's like he stole the show... the bassist. Hard to do for mere mortals.

I listened to "Ashoka", for a couple of minutes, on these little computer office speakers.
That could be why the keyboard sounded squeaky and fuzzy at the same time, hard to do in real life.
There was a really nice riff in there, a long one, fast too, showing the ability of the player,
and the overall approach was very jazzy, a nice, open ambience, making me want to hear some jazz trumpet.
Blaring jazz trumpet would mix in, but I don't like blaring trumpet, not all the time.

I didn't hear any guitar, but,
Allan Holdsworth does it, he just doesn't do it for me.
And he's been doing it for as along and in as many ways as I can remember.

Hi John, perhaps your little speakers didn't tell you that it's all midi. As for being jazzy, I use basic blues scale in the middle ground with more dissonant structures in the foreground. As far as open ambiance, that might be the non third chord voicings. Cooking up two more. Maybe I'll post them up in two more weeks.
