I tend to prefer selections without popularity votes ... I'm more into the obscure works that hardly anyone plays anymore.
"Views" are only a count of how many people have opened the page where the youtube video appears ... does not equate into the number of people who have actually listened to it or added it to their subscription lists.
We get thousands of "views" of the discussion pages on this site ... of those thousands, maybe only a handful are registered members of our forum.
I've got an easy answer. I've got my own domain, with all kinds of traffic controls.
I haven't even looked to see or set up to see who and how many look at my domain.
For me, viral You Tube means crazy, stupid stuff, just a fad for viewers, and haters.
You can work to accumulate views just like you can accumulate friends on Facebook.
Attention and attention spans, can you cross them?
A crazy title or thumb nail can attract a lot of clicks. Number of views may not mean much. Comments and likes, on the other hand, may mean something. I love reading comments each time I view a video. Unfortunately some comments are nasty or totally irrelevant. .
Yes if you monetizing them.
for example I follow this band The Rube-I'm sorry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGLvCYdpVj8
It's 2 million views (Mostly those with above a 1 million views)
