Hey guys ! I'm a french dude looking for discussing music with new people, and discovering new music basically. Also looking for discussions on music writing and composing if some of you do write too :)

Briefly, i'm mostly interested in complex music, like jazz or progressive styles, because i like to be surprised by music and to be challenged also. You might think it's a bit weird but i enjoy trying to understand a rythm from Animals As Leaders or work on Miles Davis chords progressions just to improve my sriting skills and make versatile music, in new territories such as mixing jazz, electronic music and metal for example.

So looking forward to talking with you guys about all of this :)

InvaderBob! I am accepting you as the intent of your user name, and seeing French.
That's looking at you from a Gaelic perspective, mindful of the history Scotland and France shared.

Let me try to make a musical point right away, when you say complex music.
Music, or anything, can be as complex as you want to make it.
You can always think too much, think through, think over, rethink and be thinkless with the rest.

There have been many celebrated performances and recordings, by many top flight musicians,
that fell by the musical wayside, just because they were complex for the sake of complex.
I'm sure you know even a minimalist piece can be satisfying to your musical soul.
You mention Miles Davis, and he became even more famous when he let the speed of be-bop go,
and was credited with starting "the birth of the cool", basically slowing down and getting emotional again.
In that social era, "the nuclear family", that was seen by others as being meditative, and more understandable, less complex.

So please, if you are the semi-beginner you portray yourself as, lose the desire for complex,
or coming off as smarter than other musicians. You can wear your diploma around your neck,
but other musicians can't follow those sounds if you use it like a conductor's stick.
And in the disUnited States, you can carry all your American Federation of Musicians Union cards with you,
but if you don't have a gun tucked away when you go to get paid,
your career won't be as complex as it could be.
Mind you, down there, the thought of Dolly Parton packing is part of the package.
Even Mr. Born in the U.S.A., Bruce Springsteen, carries a revolver when he goes to arena offices.

That might not be part of the complex and music performance you desire,
but you better watch what aspect of your career is taking you higher.

What I'm seeing from your statements about what you hope to accomplish with your music,
is not being a band player, score writer, or instrument builder or repairman.
I'm seeing someone who could be a soundtrack player, ready for any and all music applications.
This makes me want to ask you a question.
What kind of drum machine do you have?
