Help wanted RE: Mozart 91 Philips CME set

Hello all,

I hope you can help, and forgive me if I am breaking any protocol here.

I inherited a large classical CD collection from my father. It is a great collection but unfortunately I have to break it down as I will be moving soon and I have no space for it.

Pride of place went to the Complete Mozart Edition 180cd/45vol Philips Collection (original cabinet 1991 version)

I would like to sell this without having to sell off each volume individually. I am sure he would have preferred this part of the collection to be kept together rather than broken up.

The trouble is I do not know where to start. I have palced the collection on ebay with a starting price of £550, which I think is fair.

You want some honest feedback? Too expensive. 550 quid divided by 180 (giving a unit price of 3 pounds). That's the cost of a Naxos CD. You might find a buyer, but then you'll have the cost of posting added to it, which I'm assuming is a heavy item ... do you need that amount of money from something you inherited? Not sure?! my two cent's worth.

It is the cost of a naxos cd, but these aren't naxos cd's. A similar collection (the later reissue) went for about the same price a week or so ago, minus the excellent booklets/packaging and presentation cabinet.

Its not that I necessarily want the money, its just that I want to do justice to its value, and the value my Father had for it.

I'm sure you attach personal value to the Mozart set, but the moment you are selling something, all that counts is market value. I agree that GBP550 is too much - if you are keen on actually selling the CDs, your price should probably be around half that. You may be lucky there is a buyer who desperately wants the set and is willing to pay what you ask for, but don't count on it...

I do not believe that unit price is at all important to a buyer - affordability is. The larger the set you are selling, the lower the price you can get for each unit. Unfair, perhaps, but this is reality...
