HELP identifying a piece!

This has been bugging me for ages. I've heard it in a few different things, but when I try track the soundtrack down I can never find it.

It's the background music in the FIRST half of this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmZy98alchs .

John Murphy does the score for this movie, but I've listened to all of it and can't find this particular one. It very much sounds like his style though. I've heard it used in other programs, so it must be semi-popular.

I want to use it for a short film I plan on making.

I would VERY MUCH appreciate it if anyone could help. Thanks.

There are many times when a piece of music from a movie never makes it to a soundtrack. The reasons are many including production costs and/or copyright issues with score or musicians royalties. It could also be 'original music' specifically created just for the trailer, too, and quite possibly was never scored.

Would suggest contacting John Murphy directly ... be certain to have his express written permission to use the music for any venture you plan on releasing to the public ... there are copyright laws to heed and the fines are very stiff if caught without the proper permissions from the copyright holder.

If you do find anything out from contacting the composer, please let us know.

Good advice Lars... so many times people think music is a piece when it is just a filler..as I tell folks..like me improvising something durning a service and it is just that..no "piece".

I understand that, although I have heard a much fuller version being used in the TV series ''Top Boy'' - a four-part Channel 4 drama series that came out late last year. The piano part you hear in the youtube link I provided develops and it lasts for a good five minutes, and it sounds very much like a completed piece.

I've looked for the Top Boy soundtrack but can't find this specific piece of music. However, I searched ''top boy soundtrack'' into youtube and a suggestion was ''top boy soundtrack brian eno'' so I presumed that he maybe created it, as it sounds like it could well be his sort of style.

Anyone?

There is another source for movies ... International Movie Database

There are two versions of The Last House on the Left:
  1. 1972, original music by David Hess.
  2. 2009, original music by John Murphy.

As for Top Boy, a soundtrack CD was never produced. Songs listed in the movie credits cannot always be found on CD soundtracks, but are still copyrighted material. Dan Berridge was the composer for additional music for Top Boy - and Dan Rodgers was the music supervisor.

Still, seems the best information might still be available from John Murphy - according to IMDB he lives in Los Angeles (CA).
