It would be worth your while to listen to the unusual, but excitingly-creative new album called SKETCHES FROM AN ISLAND by Mark Barrott, a keyboardist, guitarist and percussionist who lives on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. He structured this chill-out CD as if it was a DJ cool-down sunrise set at the end of a night of dancing (at the end birds wake up with the sun).
Barrott is one of the top proponents of the balearic music sound which originated on Ibiza (prononounced ee-beez-uh) and which got its name because Ibiza is part of the chain of Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain. The island has built a powerful reputation over the past half-century as one of top party locations in the world.
The music features some light-weight beats (danceable, but not hard groove stuff), plus some spacey major-chill music with congas and steel drums and a little guitar splattered throughout the synth-driven sound. Definitely worth a listen. The project has its own website (the name of the album dot com).
