George Bizet -(1838-75)
Symphony in C (1855)
4th Movement
(Finale)
A highly gifted youngster George Bizet entered the Paris Music Conservatory at the young age of 9 with special permission and then went on to win every student prize on offer. His C major symphony, written there at age 17 augured a bright future. But it somehow escaped notice for almost 80 more years, being finally found by an archivist in the 1930s while sorting through old manuscripts. Its first performance was given to huge applause in February 1935 under the baton of Felix Weingartner.
This beautiful work can perhaps be compared in content to the Symphony in D of the teenage student Franz Schubert (D.200) or the graceful Italian Symphony of Felix Mendelssohn. It remains one of the most optimistic and happy works in all of symphonic music. Heres the Finale -
George Bizet (1838-75)
