Here they are NOT top 5 (I hate that) but 5 great artist worth listening to without reservations:

Alan Holdsworth

fair enough, no top 5 then, funny though that a few of your guitarists made my list too: Larry Coryell, Allan Holdsworth, Larry Carlton,John Goodsall, John Scofield

My list would include of course Allan Holdsworth who performs both rock and fusion styles. He is definitely one of the greatest guitar players. Apart from him, I would like to listen to John Scofield, and Bill Frisell. The other two would include guitarists from bands- Frank Gambale from Chick Corea Elektric and Scott Henderson from Tribal Tech.

If it wasn't for his bizarre taste in guitars, I'd probably be a bigger fan of Allan Holdsworth

Seriously though, I wouldn't hesitate to put him in the top five. From what I've seen and heard, he's got great versatility and is widely respected as both a guitarist and a musician. Good stuff, well worth a listen to - not really my cup of tea but again I can appreciate it.
