FORREST SMITHSON
DREAMING TIME
REVIEW:
Have you ever had a chance to listen to ambient music? If you have always been curious to try some of the mellowest music ever made, you should give it a shot. And if you want a great place to start dipping your ear in the sonic pool, you might want to try the album Dreaming Time by Forrest Smithson. This is modern-ambient-space-music of the highest caliber, carefully-constructed with multiple musical characteristics taking place all along the way. The regular album contains four lengthy tunes, but each is designed to hold the listeners interest.
This is the second album by Smithson who is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in this field. Early ambient music floated and drifted with virtually no melody or sense of progression, while this newer type of modern-ambient has definite sections or movements, gentle and slow-changing melodies, and occasional rhythms or pulses, plus much more.
This is both excellent contemporary new age music as well as ambient music (a sub-genre these days in the new age field). Listening to this CD will definitely tell you whether you like ambient enough to go out and listen to some more. You might just be surprised. And if you are into meditation, yoga, massage therapy, deep-breathing exercises or any similar activities, this music will work well.
