Dear all, I've been djing classical/deep/lounge music for more than 12 years now and would love to jump into the scoring field. I love movies, I feel music and totally understand its place and importance in movies.
What is the best software to use for film music composing?

Thanks a lot. Marwin.

I'm unable to advise on software but I can recommend Film Score Monthly Online as an excellent messageboard/resource to give the appropriate advice. Best of luck.

There are a few DAW’s that have a good setup for scoring. As for VST plug-ins there are a plethora of those to achieve great orchestral samples such as Eastwest, symphobia, cinesamples, kontakt komplete, Hollywood Strings, Hollywood Brass, ect. As far as DAW’s go, if you have a mac, Logic is what is generally used to compose. As for PC, I am not entirely sure what I could suggest. In my own setup I use FL studio to write as it is very user friendly and accessible. However, my college professor did chuckle a bit when I told him. It still gets the job done so long as you put enough work into making your sounds sound great. I’d look around at some youtube videos to see what everyone else is using.

I am also using fl studio for film score, and wondered what other software's would get the job done just as good if not even better; maybe pro tools or cubase? I have recently discovered kontakt and the massive amounts of libraries that are available. As of now Fl studio is what I know how to use and it gets the job done as well for me. I am still exploring and seeking ideas or suggestions for film scoring.
