For the first time ever on Magle I introduce a progressive band from Romania. ECHO have began about twenty years ago, but The Dream is their first full length release.
The references to Pink Floyd, Eloy, Camel and ELP are quite audible. Therere few allusions to ambient, fusion and folk in several of the tracks also. Echo members are instrumentally divine to make use of both solo parts and backing arrangements. The material is delicate and peaceful, even in the upbeat numbers. The standard of musicianship is high throughout. Perhaps, the most identifiable thing about Echo is their lead-guitarist, with a style pitched between David Gilmour and Andy Latimer. Whether providing emotionally charged guitar solos or tasteful textures, Daniel Ionitas playing is immaculate. Keyboardist Laurentiu Popescu comes from the Keith Emersons school, providing plenty of atmospheric and symphonic backdrops. Petru Macarie is able to present tasty bass lines, functioning in synch with the precise drums of Catalin Chivu. They lend a great deal of power at the right moments. Add to this team Sorin Malolescu (guitar & vocals) and the picture is complete.

The excess of variation plus the characteristic voice create the interesting sound. It's clear that guys have developed their skills and talents to produce solid compositions, but also their own significant style. Overall, Echo should be well on their way. As it stands, many prog lovers can purchase The Dream with confidence.
