Dreaming of New Classical Music

Does anyone have dreams or nightspells in which they are hearing amazing classical music. I've had many dreams where during the dream I am thinking of classical music in my head, but hearing it like a real symphony in my ears, or dreams in which there is a symphony and they are playing classical music. Then sometimes when I am in a limbo between the dream world and real world, (I'm slightly concious), I can start thinking of classical music, and then really hearing it. It's better than headphones though because I'm mainlining it straight from the brain.

Anyways, the above is what I remember happening once I am completely concious and awake. I can never remember any of the music though, just sort of a fleeting rembrance of the style maybe, but I can't remember any thing substantial. All I remember is just being in that state and thinking wow, this music is amazing.

It's possible that my brain could just be replaying bits and pieces of music that I have already listened to but it never sounds like that, it's always a very unique type of symphonic music. People who frequently listen to classical music (you all), can improv symphonies and things of that nature in their head to some degree, but it always require some level of thinking and thinking ahead. I used to think that when I was in my subconcious and dream states that it was necessary for me to keep thinking ahead to keep playing the music, but I've learned that I can just relax and let my brain keep creating the music while I simply listen to the music (I know it sounds like I'm crazy). I just wonder what exactly is taking place, because it sounds like really good and rich symphonic music, at least my dream mind thinks so, and enjoys it immensly.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience, I wish there was some way to hook the brain up, so that one could directly record his musical thoughts!

Zounds ... another one who has the same brain pattern thoughts during REM sleep that I have. I thought, until now, that I was alone in that ... amazingly enough, most of those melodic thoughts I tend to remember later on and manage to get at least part of the song transribed into written notes.

Yes, it would certainly be easier to slap a few sensors into my head and record the music as it unfolds initially. Maybe in 20 years or so this might be a reality.

Not sure if I hear music in my dreams, because once I'm awake I can never remember what I was dreaming about!

But I often have a head full of music when I'm lying in bed trying to get to sleep. Especially if I've been listening to something with complex, intricate melodies that day.

What an interesting thread. I've had a few dreams where I visualised some new music on paper, but I forgot it upon waking up. :(

I often do the best composing in the mornings though, while my head is still in dream land. Something interesting I read by Jung - he said that we are always dreaming, only we don't notice it when awake because reality is so overwhelming to our senses.

The only dreams I have that are associated with music are the ones where I`m dreaming that I have a concert, and I`ve forgotten the part. Or that I`ve gotten lost trying to get to the concert hall. And so on. More nightmares than dreams, I guess...

well usually when i dream about music, it's the composition i listened before i sleep

it's really cool to have such a dream!! someday you should write that incredible music..

when i think of the composition that'll be totally cool to be "hear" in a dream, it must be the new age simphonies of Dvorak!, makes me think of walking in a new cool, science fiction world!! hehe

Day Dreams

I rarely have dreams that I can remember. But I do day-dream about the ideal symphony. I often wish I had the gift of knowing how to put down what I hear on paper, how to translate intricate textures into notes on paper.

It's great though, its like a crazy mash of Mahler, Shostakovich, Ginastera and Bartok with a dash of Bruckner and a sprinkle of Ravel.
