I guess the whole thing is a hoax, but I'm open minded, I just have issues with the distances needed to traverse to get anywhere, I mean Alpha Centauri is 4 light years away ... light travels at about 200,000 kilometres a second (I think) so that's a terribly long way.

Yes, A very long way, I think there some places man is destined never to go. Unless of course the world gets much smaller, or travel gets much faster.
