Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share with you some rare clips I found on YT. They show Bernstein's absolutely exquisite explanations of some of the works of classical music.

I am extremely fond of Bernstein on so many levels and yes, his interpretation of Beethoven ... I can't help thinking that Ludwig would be very pleased.
Lenny was a superb conductor, especially with what he did for younger orchestras. His "Young Peoples Concerts" TV series still holds up very well today AFAIC, I will use them in classes from time to time.
Then there's his own compositions so many of which just have the most unrestrained joviality and zest. I actually managed to get one of my school ensembles to play the West Side Story Mambo last year, which they took to with almost as much enthusiasm as me!:)
My favourite performance of the Mambo is still this one - utterly electrifying:

Thank you very much for your videos

We can see that Bernstein knows what's talking about when describing Mozart's 40th! He's great! He was a wonderful musician...

Watching those videos makes me feel like I'm on another planet. I can't imagine turning the TV on and seeing there a guy explain classical music to an audience (and successfully, in fact). What a sad status quo.
