\'Authenticity\' in crossover music?

Hey, I was wondering if you have any thoughts on this? i.e. do you hear it differently, or do you have a problem, when people approach a music outside of their style or culture?

Some major examples to consider are the work of John Zorn or Mr. Bungle, who are known to dabble in any and all genres. Same goes for some of the more recent Mr. Bungle 'spinoffs' like Secret Chiefs 3 (webofmimicry.com), The Tango Saloon (cdbaby.com/thetangosaloon) and Estradasphere (estradasphere.com).

I guess the question I'm asking is, is it inherently 'flawed' when Mr. Bungle does throat singing, or SC3 goes Middle Eastern, or The Tango Saloon do the tango? Some may even think the more contemporary artists are doing a 'better' job due to their training and technique.

I suppose at the end of the day it's all music, and we simply judge it on how it sounds..? Please share your thoughts.
