And You And I was a track from the classic YES album Close To The Edge (1972). But for now AND YOU AND I is also the name of excellent quartet whose debut CD Rise should lift your spirit as a musical antidepressant. Stylistically, they combine prog rock, smooth jazzy tones, pop sensibility, funky astuteness and atmospheric moods. This New-York located group consists of Eric Grossarth (lead vocals/keyboards), Greg Giordano (vocals/guitars), Andrew Ramsingh (drums/percussion) and Michael Andreas (bass). The sheer scope could be a true indicator of top notch craftsmanship, and these fellows have managed to present a tasty mixture with many twists and outbursts, with layer upon layer. As result, Rise is a quite impressive release full of musical dexterity, quirky melodies, subtle dynamics, glued together by gentle harmonies and graceful playing. Thats rather surrealistic, yet striking to listen to!.

If any comparisons need to be made, there is a distant echo of Queen (circa early 80s) with a little touch of Moon Safari. Perhaps, I can offer Spocks Beard like a further point of reference. Defying collation, AYAI shows its own unique path. All in all, the American progressive scene has a fresh act to consider. This is a band at the top of their game.
