This was intentional, David ... keeps the spammer bots from being able to flood the forum with spam postings. Those bots can post at the rate of several hundred posts per minute. If they have to wait, those spam bots lose interest and go somewhere else.

I agree with David. It can be frustrating if you are whipping between posts with short replies, but if it keeps the spammers out it is worth putting up with. The MESSAGE IS TOO SHORT announcements are more frustrating as there are several threads which often only require a short word or two (and we can no longer post LOL). Is this also an anti spamming measure, or a software glitch?

When I do the word association game I must try and find longer words to use.

Again, by design, the minimum characters required (10) is stop the simple one word replied like "yup", "funny", "good one", and the one I hate: "wtf" (which get deleted, btw) used by spammers to "test" that their registration got approved.

Did you know that using a 'smilie' counts towards that 10 character limit?

:lol: ... yes we were being besieged with lots of spam messages about pearls and such ... if only the spammers would concentrate the same efforts on good things, think how much better the world might be. . I know, I'm dreaming ... really though, having the spammers does let me keep my job here.

And ... I just lowered the 108 second wait to 83 seconds effective immediately.
