• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Bach Chorales in PDF

Here are the JS Bach Chorales ... enjoy.

For the convenience for my American friends, they are in US letter format, landscape. To print in A4, choose automatic output to A4 from your printer's dialog box.

[Edit: 01/05/2008 merged latest additions] :) :) :) :) :) :D ;) :)

Again, three more opals. [12/30/07]
Two more treasures. [12/30/07]
four more beauties. [12/31/07]
three more [01/01/08]
Two more treasures [01/02/08] (I'm not over Bach typsetting yet ...)
One more beauty [01/04/08]
One more jewell [01/04/08]
Two more treasures [01/05/08]
Merged 6 more [10/02/08]

Thanks, CT for these ... This will be of great help for those seeking these particular works.

I now present two missing Chorales (BWV 630 and 631), can't understand why though - I obviously had a senior moment.

Here's a couple more ...

One more (BWV 639) one of my favourites, so beautiful.

One more (BWV 640)

Come on now, alto clef isn't that unfathomable! (trust me, I play viola too).

No alto clef here, but delicious inner parts

Thanks Krummhorn, here's one more (more alto clef reading required!)

And this is the LAST one in the set (thank goodness).

And the devinely beautiful Schübler Chorale No. 1 is here for the enjoyment of all. It's not fiendishly difficult so most modest organists should be able to give it a whirl. I can even get through it more or less.

And the fiendishly difficult second Schübler Chorale which is WAY beyond my skills, enjoy:

And so on and so forth ...

I can just hear Bach's dialog with his son: "Now CPE, I know your right hand technique is excellent, this will work out your left hand AND feet, get working ..."

And in a very similar vein (working out left hand and pedal), this finely crafted chorale, which looks like it needs the services of a viola-da-gamba player.

Phew - the final Schübler Chorale, enjoy!

Thanks.
I have allready these works but it may be nice for other organists.
This give me the following idea :
start a thread for "PDF score help" wher we could ask for a score or send a PDF to a friend, while respecting copyright rules of course.
I do it at once.

Thanks for this idea but I need to wait a while before I can print any
of those pieces. They do look appetizing for an amature like me.

"leere Blätter im Autographe für die Choräle"

My German is quite rusty, so I consulted an online translator for help. The rough translation of the above German into English is:

"empty sheets in the Autograph [signature?] for the Choräle"

These chorales form part of the "Little Organ Book". Used by the great master to teach the art of improvisation (on a hymn tune), can't remember which of his sons it was aimed at ... but I'm sure some Einstein here will fill in this knowledge gap.

Hi CT64,

In Christoph Wolff's seminal work "J.S.Bach, The Learned Musician" pg.226, Dr. Wolff points to Wilhelm Friedeman Bach as the beneficiary of the Orgel-Büchlein, among other things. Dr. Wolff also posits that JSBach provided samples of these works when he applied for a position at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig.

Hope that will wet your whistle a bit :grin::grin:

Cheers,

Corno Dolce

Judy ... BWV 599 one of th easiest to master in the set of Little Organ Book works. It's five up from the bottom in my list. Annoyingly I can't seem to get them to appear in numeric order ... will have to work that through with one of the moderators and some cunning scheming.

I like 599. In fact so many from the Buchlein are really pleasant and not too hard either - makes them easy enough to pull out when required with minimal effort.

The only way is to completely 'unload' them and start anew - re-assembled, they would still reside in the first posting as they are now. It would require a regulator (me, perhaps) to perform that 'cunning scheme' ...  . Unfortunatly, if I remove those files, they go directly to la-la-land and would have to be uploaded by Contratrombone64 all over again. :nut:

Sure thing ... I'm also looking into how we might post them in the internal Magle Wiki here, too.
