Today, my Fanfare and Anthem ‘Skyward’ has been released on all major streaming and download platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and many others (Just search for “Skyward” and/or “Frederik Magle” on your favourite streaming service to listen).
Skyward – for brass ensemble, timpani, and percussion – is performed by The Prince of Denmark Air Force Band (Prinsens Musikkorps), conducted by Peter Ettrup Larsen.
It was originally commissioned for the rollout event for the Danish F-35 fighters, and has since been performed at major events and ceremonies for the Royal Danish Air Force.
But the music has a meaning that stretches outside of just military music. It is a piece of hope and dreams of new horizons, looking and yearning towards the sky – A fanfare and anthem, not for war, but for peace.
