Today my newest work “Fanfare for the Royal Danish Orchestra” (Det Kongelige Kapels Fanfare), commissioned by The Royal Danish Orchestra (Det Kongelige Kapel) as their official fanfare, has been premiered.
The premiere was originally planned to have taken place at a gala concert on April 14th at The Royal Theatre, in celebration of the 80th birthday of H.M. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, but due to the corona virus the concert was cancelled. Instead The Royal Theatre (where the orchestra has its home) decided to make a video with the fanfare, recorded in each musicians’ home by themselves with mobile phones, and present it as a gift to the Queen on her birthday today!
I am honoured to have been given this commission by the outstanding Royal Danish Orchestra, and to have it presented as a birthday gift to H.M. Queen Margrethe II.
It is scored for 3 trumpets, 2 horns, 2 trombones, 1 bass-trombone, tuba, timpani, and percussion (performed in the video with doubling horns and an additional trumpet, which is possible to do)
You can view and listen to the recording on the Royal Theatre’s streaming site: KGL Xtra and YouTube:
